Public Information

A.A. Public Information has one ultimate goal, and it is the same as that as every A.A. Group and type of service work: To carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

Public information reaches the alcoholic in three ways:

  • By informing the public about the AA program,
  • By informing "the third person" whose work is or may be involved with the active alcoholic, and
  • By keeping the fellowship well informed, so that members and groups may carry the message effectively.

Although at times most of our membership seems to think that speaking at schools is the only thing we do, this isn’t so. Committee members have also host booths health fairs. We work with the media, using public service announcements (PSAs) on TV and radio. We can also supply basic texts and literature racks in libraries, police stations, geriatric centers and doctor’s offices.

How Can You Help?

There are many ways that you can help. AA service work only requires two things:

  • You make the commitment; You show up. Service work is not intended to be a full or part time job. You do what you can when you can.
  • Use one of your better life skills you have and apply it to the program. You can learn from other volunteers how they do things and apply it to your specific needs.
