Some of the things Intergroup does:

Answering Service –The Answering Service Committee maintains the "Twelve Step" response list and the scheduling of hot line phone commitments. This committee assures that when CJI receives a call for help that someone is there to give the needed help.

Correctional Facilities –.The Correctional Facilities Committee "concern is the ‘alcoholic behind-the-walls’, whether in a long- or short-term institution". This committee schedules prison commitments and provides information and literature to prisons and other institutions.

Hospitals & Institutions –With approval of administration, takes A.A. meetings into facilities within its area.

  • Encourages group participation.
    1. a. Groups are invited to have a representative on the committee.

  • Seeks to understand, respect, and adhere to all treatment facility regulations.
  • Makes information about A.A.’s function and purpose available.

Newsletter - . The CJI Newsletter is available in both HTML for viewing on the web and PDF formats for printing.

Public Information – .A. Public Information has one ultimate goal, and it is the same as that as every A.A. Group and type of service work: To carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

Public information reaches the alcoholic in three ways:

  • By informing the public about the AA program,
  • By informing "the third person" whose work is or may be involved with the active alcoholic, and
  • By keeping the fellowship well informed, so that members and groups may carry the message effectively. Committee members have also host booths health fairs. We work with the media, using public service announcements (PSAs) on TV and radio. We can also supply basic texts and literature racks in libraries, police stations, geriatric centers and doctor’s offices.

Steering – The Steering Committee composed of officers, committee chairs and trustees, meets monthly to discuss CJI business and to set the agenda for the upcoming body meeting.

Web Site - The Website Committee is responsible for maintaining the website. This includes posting the current CJI meeting list. The web site is used to communicate what is going on with CJI, and A.A. as a whole. In addition to intergroup committees, we post anniversary meeting announcements and new meeting announcements for the groups in our area.

What you can do:

Intergroup offers a variety of ways for you to do service work, such as:

  • Volunteering for a phone commitment at the intergroup office. There usually are spots open during the day.
  • Volunteering to have AA hotline phones forwarded to your phone while you are home.
  • Becoming a 12 step volunteer. This is where you agree to make a 12 step call to an alcoholic based on calls that come in to the hotline.
  • Take a commitment into a jail, hospital or institution.
  • Donate literature/spare change to your group’s ‘Jailbox’.
  • Volunteer to be a guest speaker at one of the jails, hospitals or institutions.
  • Volunteer to take a public service commitment or assist other AA’s in fulfilling the commitment.
  • All of the committees listed above could use volunteers. These can be wonderful opportunities to use your life skills to help carry the message of AA to other alcoholics.
